Who can use the Sports Centre?

The Sports Centre and all our facilities are open to students, staff and the local community all year round. To use the Centre you do not have to be a member however it does work out to be cheaper if you are and student and staff members have prioritised use and subsidised rates. All users must be over the age of sixteen to use the facilities unless they are participating in an activity with an adult. No users under the age of eighteen will be allowed to use the Free Weights.

Guests

For members wishing to bring a guest along with them that is no problem. Guests are more than welcome to the Centre on payment of the non member rates.

Sports Centre Activity Programme

A new timetable is published every term in the form of a Newsletter which highlights all of the activities and classes we have going on throughout the term. The Newsletter is available from reception. Click here to view a full list of our activities.

Equipment Hire

A large selection of equipment to hire is available from the Centre including rackets, wetsuits, tents, footballs, golf clubs and bodyboards.

Valuables

Please do not leave any valuables in the changing rooms. Remember to use the hire lockers in the changing rooms, £1.00 refundable.

Locker Hire

Personal lockers are available for hire at £15/£22 (members/non-members) for the academic year with a £5 refundable deposit. The lockers are based opposite the squash courts and having one will allow you to leave your kit in the Sports Centre throughout the day in readiness for for visit later the same day. For more details please visit reception.

Footwear

All participants should wear non-marking trainers when using Main Hall, Small Hall and Squash Courts. Users should not travel to the Centre in shoes intended for play. Sport Centre staff may prevent users from taking part wearing muddy shoes since dirty floors lead to a safety hazard. Suitable footwear must be worn in the Conditioning Room and Free Weights Room (no flip flops).

Bags

No bags are allowed in any of the play areas. All players must use the hire lockers in the changing rooms. Bags left on the floors are a serious hazard and duty staff will ask individuals to remove their bags and use lockers. The only exceptions to this rule are users of the Climbing Wall where the bags can be stored in a designated area.

No Smoking

Please remember that the building (including immediately outside the building) is a No Smoking Zone. We ask everyone to observe this rule at all times.

Disabled Users

The Conditioning Room has specialist equipment which can be used by wheelchair users. During 2006 the Centre had extensive alterations to the building to comply with DDA. The changing rooms located on the ground and lower ground floor are able to accommodate wheelchair users. Disabled toilets are available on all floors. A lift is available in the Centre. If you have any questions relating to your specific needs please contact Emma Bradshaw, Sports Participation Manager, at the Sport Centre.

Lost Property

All items of lost property found at the facilities are logged at Reception and may be collected within a week. Items not collected are then forwarded to the central lost property store located in the Estates Department.

A full copy of the Centre’s rules and regulations is displayed at reception.
